Dishwasher and Can Opener

Here is our new Bosch Dishwasher that takes a panel. We are trying to keep our kitchen as period correct as possible. In doing this we decided to buy a dishwasher that is not visible. Here is what it looks like with the door closed.

Here is a view of the dishwasher partially open to give you a perspective on how the panel is mounted to the dishwasher door. Basically you select your settings with the door open like this and once you shut the door, the dishwasher starts.

This can opener we bought from ebay. It was made in the late teens to 1920's sometime. It is made from cast iron and mounts firmly on the wall. I had to strip three layers of paint from it which took me about six hours. I painted it in its origional finish.

    does the can opener work? if it does, I'm going to search ebay and junk stores until I find me one. These new ones might work a year and they are done. Love your kitchen and admire your resolve to keep it all period to the house.

    Yes. The can opener works very good. I did however, run across one on ebay that was missing the blade. So be careful. The can opener is made by Dazey.

    Envious of the can opener. What is your technique for stripping paint from old objects like this?

    Thank you A. and S. I used a jewlery ultrasonic machine to strip the paint off. I left the individual parts in for several hours. After taking them out, i used sandpaper to remove the paint that did not come off. I then painted it with satin black spray paint by Stove Bright. Stove Bright makes the best satin black in my opinion because it is not too flat like bar-b-q paint is. I see these can openers on ebay a lot. That is where I got mine.

    I've bookmarked the Stove Bright brand. I think I'd eventually like to refinish our metal grates, which are original to the house but currently scabby-looking, since old layers of paint are flaking off. I'll remember your sandpaper technique, too!
